Can You Hear The Violin?

Nocturne For days 75 to 100 of the 100 Day HAED Challenge I switched over to Nocturne.  This page involved stitching her face and the violin! Reminder of Artwork, Nocturne by Marta Dahlig: Previous Progress: Progress at Day 90 of Challenge: Progress at Day 100: Current Progress: Unfortunately, yet again I've just missed out on a page finish!  I'm switching projects again for the 21 stitch day Challenge.  At the moment I still have six pages at various levels of completion to finish for the yearly goals... I was a bit ambitious with the goal setting this year lol.  Halloween Sale There is a 20 % off Halloween Sale running from now till the 2nd November on my Etsy shop Crystallize By Joelle !  Here are two pendants I recently made... Labradorite and Mookaite Gemstone Pendants:   Happy Halloween! Happy Stitching! xxx

Nocturne

Image
Nocturne It's been a long time since Nocturne has seen the light of day!  This project was one of the three pieces with the highest amount of votes, when everyone voted for the projects they wanted to see more progress on.   I really wanted to complete page 8 for this blog but I'm only about halfway through.  The chart I'm working on is the old version.   After discovering the art was re-charted, I put the wip aside for awhile to decide whether or not to restart with the newer chart.  I've decided to continue working on the original chart though.  I've already restarted this one before and don't have the heart to restart it again, especially since quite a decent amount has been completed.  Anyway, the newer chart may blend better and have more depth but I still think the original is pretty!  They both have their strengths and weaknesses. Mock-up Comparison; Old Chart on the Left and New Chart on the Right: Added Mini Mock-up for ...

Birds, Butterflies & Fairies!

Image
The Mystery of the Birds I’ve been working away on the Mystery Chart and the second bird is not looking so mysterious now! Progress on this chart is now at about 53% complete, so just over the halfway mark. Previous Progress: Current Progress:       Butterflies Galore! I'm very excited to share that Freddy Werner is stitching the butterfly chart I made! You can see pictures (posted in the downloads tab with permission) or follow her stitching progress via Instagram. She is considering filling the wings in with variegated thread…  I can't wait to see more of her stitching! I have always loved butterflies.  When Heaven & Earth did requests I asked to have Adolescence by Dahlig charted.  I've had this chart waiting in the wings for some time due to my indecision about fabric and also trying not to have too many projects on the go (which I’ve obviously relaxed about lol!) I do plan to start stitching this (next year) and fi...

Sparkly Clouds & Violins

Image
I have finished page five of Nocturne! There is one more page of clouds to stitch to complete the first row.  Awhile back I decided to try Petite Treasure braid PB10 thread from Rainbow Gallery.  This page full of sparkly cloud stitching was a great opportunity to test out the PB10 and compare it with the Kreinik #4 032 (very fine braid) metallic.  I found they were not all that different to stitch with.  However, I did prefer the feel of the Treasure Braid because it frayed less when trying to thread it onto the needle and therefore I felt there was more integrity to the thread.  At a subtler level the Treasure Braid also seemed to sit slightly neater in the stitching because the integrity of the thread seemed sturdier. I also found the tones in each were slightly different and they both caught the light differently. The Krienik has an orange/gold tone running through it (which is absent in the Treasure Braid) and the Treasure Braid has a hot pink to...

The Framing of Umbrella Sky Part 2

Image
I won't write "a novel" for part 2... I'll just cut straight to the reveal and bombard you all with photos! Here she is finally framed: This one I took with the camera flash turned on: Different angle: I choose a silver coloured frame because it was much more complementary than the darker frames I was initially looking at. I felt like I wanted some metallic element in there from the start. Blacks were just too dark and wood didn’t look right. I think the lighter color really brings her out and that’s where the attention should rightly go! Frame moulding up close:   I went with the conservation clear glass (cuts out UV) to hopefully prevent any potential fading from exposure to light. Unfortunately this shot ended up a bit blurry it gives an idea of the size anyway! I am quite tall for the record!: I think it turned out well after the long process to get to this point.  Now, back to stitching my wips!
