The Queen of Spades Sends Her Regards...

The Queen of Spades Sends Her Regards

For days 25 to 50 of the HAED 100 Day Challenge I worked on the Queen of Spades.  Here is a reminder of the artwork by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law:

Finding Treasure

I've also started work on the next row of Treasure Hunt for days 50-75.  I haven't done anywhere near as much as I set out to though...

  1. I really love the artwork of Stephanie Law and I really adore that particular piece, but I am really disappointed with how blurry the HAED charting is. You can barely tell it is a 2 of spades and you cannot even tell they are flowers behind him. Not sure what to do. I guess I should just chart it myself. :(

    1. Yes, there is a tendency for blurriness in a lot of their charting, which can be frustrating. I believe that is often due to size restrictions as well as the fact they don't have time to be hand editing all details. This version is the re-charted regular one. They also have a larger version SAS (select a size) of this art, you can see from the mock-u this is heaps clearer than the regular version. However, the SAS is also 850 stitches wide, as opposed to 450! You have to go bigger to get the detail😊

  2. Love your works Megan. I also believe that the bigger the work the more details. It's very logical. That is also why those diamond paintings are only interesting when they are big. Because of the size of the stones. They are always 2 mm square, so the smaller the work, the less detail it has.
I do think your works look gorgeous and I always find it interesting how you just want some parts of art works. Cropped parts. Very nice idea actually. I've never thought of that.
Your pendants also look amazing. Well done.

    1. Thank you Natascha! I think the size thing also comes back to the art and how detailed the artwork is as well. Some artworks naturally translate better into smaller charts if the detail in the art itself is not too fine/small. With the diamond paintings, the way they end up looking still largely comes back to the charting as one of the major determinations of detail. There is definately an art to charting! Anyway, glad you like some of the crops I'm doing! I like having the mix of a few "smaller" projects in there alongside all the massive, gigantic ones! Thanks for your comment on the pendants 💕💕💗

  3. I love the pieces you are stitching! They both look great and are so colorful! I was surprised by the blurriness though, that kinda stinks. I can't wait for the Queen to appear though I know she will be quite a while down the road. Great pendants as well!

    1. Well, compared to the original version of Queen of Spades that Mary Ko stitched it does seem blurrier. It looks to be because there is more dithering happening in the newer chart. That also adds more depth too though. There is so much confetti in it! It rivals Treasure Hunt! I think the colours are turning out beautiful. I mean this part is mostly background... So hopefully the section with the Queen will be clearer :)
