Home is Where the Magic is!

Iā€™ve settled into the new place after the chaos of moving house. A big thanks to Sandra Popek for her fun housewarming gift of Storykeep ā€œHome is Where the Magic isā€ by Spangler. I love it!

My new place is in a very pretty green area, as there has been lots of rain recently.  Itā€™s also close to a lovely walking track.  Here's the view from the bottom of the garden:

I was sad to leave behind my old stitchy spot as I was accustomed to the height of the bench and stool and balanced my q-snap between them to be able to stitch two-handed. Thankfully I borrowed a table off my sister and can now balance my q-snap between the desk and table!

Sing a Rainbow

The second page of Rainbow Girl is finished! Iā€™ve completed all the rainbow in this column of pages now.  Iā€™m tempted to skip to the next column and continue with the rainbow, but will persevere and finish this column first. The next two pages will be the animals, so there will be lots of brown and dark colours.  Deer antlers and birds are already appearing at the bottom of this page!

    Lovely new home you have! Our area is suffering from no rain so everything is brown. On the flip side, I don't need to mow the grass very often. :) The colors in Rainbow Girl are beautiful. I've always admired Jo Wall projects but have yet to pick one up. I can't decide which one I want!

      Thanks Kaelyn! I love the rain. It's perfect stitching weather šŸŒ§ā˜‚ Will have to send some your way šŸŒ§šŸŒ§šŸ˜‰ Josephine has so many beautiful artworks... It can be hard to narrow it down. That's why I've got 4 of hers on the go! I really hope they chart "Love is in the Air," been waiting for that one since the start of 2014! I've found it helps to live with the ones you love for a couple of months (or years, lol) on your desktop or as a screensaver. One always ends up capturing your heart more than the others over timeā¤ļø

      Thanks IngridšŸ˜Š It's such a big job moving house! Matisse (my cat) is still getting used of being here and is scared of going outside. She used to love being outdoors... Hopefully she will stop being such a scaredy cat eventually lolšŸ˜æ Very happy with my new stitching corner though. The colours on this page were a joy to stitch! šŸŒˆ

A Rainbow Checkerboard

Diagonal Challenge #1 There are six challenges to be posted on the Official HAED Facebook page this year. The first challenge involved stitching 1000 stitches in 10x10 diagonal blocks. I pulled out Rainbow Girl for this and it was nice to change things up and work differently to normal! A Game of Chess! I don't usually park but it made sense to do so when working in blocks.   Even though lines are not meant to form working diagonally, I still felt slightly apprehensive about the possibly of this happening.  I figured parking may lessen the risk by helping to even out the tension between squares. Before:  After: Although I kind of like the checkerboard effect, overall I didnā€™t take to this way of stitching and found it more time consuming than my usual preferred cross country method.  I didnā€™t enjoy being confined to working in blocks...  Having to stay in the box drove me crazy lol!  I did like the fact I wasnā€™t reaching for floss b...

Nocturne

Nocturne It's been a long time since Nocturne has seen the light of day!  This project was one of the three pieces with the highest amount of votes, when everyone voted for the projects they wanted to see more progress on.   I really wanted to complete page 8 for this blog but I'm only about halfway through.  The chart I'm working on is the old version.   After discovering the art was re-charted, I put the wip aside for awhile to decide whether or not to restart with the newer chart.  I've decided to continue working on the original chart though.  I've already restarted this one before and don't have the heart to restart it again, especially since quite a decent amount has been completed.  Anyway, the newer chart may blend better and have more depth but I still think the original is pretty!  They both have their strengths and weaknesses. Thread Bear

Iā€™ve made a start on The Enchanted Manor by Josephine Wall. This one is being stitched on 14 count aida to boost the finished size of the crop.  I've never stitched on such a low count before and was curious to try it out! Iā€™ve been working on this on and off over the past couple of months.  I'm using 4 over 1 full cross on dark colours and 3 over 1 full cross on everything else. Progress since December: I love it how Josephine painted a koala bear in the corner of this piece. The koala is native to Australia (my home country), which gives this piece a special resonance for me. Did you know that despite the fact they are often called Koala bears, Koalas aren't related to bears?! They are actually more closely related to kangaroos and wombats! They are often referred to as a koala bear because they have an obvious resemblance to a teddy bearā€¦ Currently I'm about halfway through the first page: Wishing everyone a safe and fun time over the Easter period ...
