The Girl that Stitches

Movies, Stitching, Rainbow Girl and R.A.E.M.E Over the past couple of weeks/months I haven't been as focused on my stitching as normal because I've been jewellery making!  Although, Rob and I have done quite a few stitching/movie marathon afternoons which has been fun.  Anyway, I've finally got to the end of the page on Rainbow Girl and Rob has made awesome progress on his stitching! Rainbow Girl has been on the q-snap over the past couple of weeks and I'm just about at the halfway mark on this next page...  It's hard to believe I haven't worked on this one since June 2016!  It doesn't seem like that long! I’ve settled into the new place after the chaos of moving house. A big thanks to Sandra Popek for her fun housewarming gift of Storykeep “Home is Where the Magic is” by Spangler. I love it! Click here for pattern link   My new place is in a very pretty green area, as there has been lots of rain recently.  It’s also close to a lovely walking track.  Here's the view from the bottom of the garden: I was sad to leave behind my old stitchy spot as I was accustomed to the height of the bench and stool and balanced my q-snap between them to be able to stitch two-handed. Diagonal Challenge #1 There are six challenges to be posted on the Official HAED Facebook page this year. The first challenge involved stitching 1000 stitches in 10x10 diagonal blocks. I pulled out Rainbow Girl for this and it was nice to change things up and work differently to normal! A Game of Chess! I don't usually park but it made sense to do so when working in blocks.   Even though lines are not meant to form working diagonally, I still felt slightly apprehensive about the possibly of this happening.  I figured parking may lessen the risk by helping to even out the tension between squares. Before:  After: Although I kind of like the checkerboard effect, overall I didn’t take to this way of stitching and found it more time consuming than my usual preferred cross country method.  I didn’t enjoy being confined to working in blocks...  Having to stay in the box drove me crazy lol!  I did like the fact I wasn’t reaching for floss b...

The first page of Rainbow Girl is finished! I really enjoyed stitching the rainbow colours! I’m starting to get used to the feel of stitching 1 over 1 on 25 count and would certainly use this fabric and thread combination again.  It’s definitely up there with 20 count lugana (2 over 1) as a favorite combination of mine. Progress update:   Fly by Needleminder  I’m pretty good at losing needles… I think they all end up the same place as all those missing sock pairs… Maybe there is a needle snatching monster as well as a sock monster! Anyway, I made a needleminder by snapping a little magnet onto a butterfly brooch/pin that was handy. It’s working great… but whether I will stop losing needles… well that is probably still unlikely lol! ;) Post edit: Requested pictures of brooch;    

A big thank-you to Sandra Popek for the RAK she sent me and the beautiful sentiment along with it!  I received the chart for Rainbow Girl II by Josephine Wall. I'm very excited about stitching this one. Mock-up: Link to chart Slipping, Sliding, Twirling...  I just happened to have a piece of 25 count fabric the perfect size for this chart.  I've been doing lots of test patches on 25 and 28 count fabric recently in order to get the hang of stitching on it.  Having never attempted to stitch 1 over 1 full cross on these counts I was surprised to find it so difficult.  I was having trouble with the stitches slipping and trying to get them to sit neatly seemed impossible.  So after doing some research I discovered the following techniques which help to stop stitches slipping (therefore they also impact coverage and neatness).  Apologies if you have all seen my posts from facebook already!  I got so excited about my discovery that I just had to...
