The Girl that Stitches

25 Days of Treasure Hunt I've fallen way behind with my yearly stitching goals...  So when a post for the 100 HAED Challenge came up on my Facebook feed it sounded like the perfect way to get motivated again and catch up!  I've sort of been avoiding my Treasure Hunt crop because it was getting slightly tedious with all that confetti. The aim of this challenge is to stitch everyday though and that has certainly helped progress. I'm going to share the first twenty-five days now! Movies, Stitching, Rainbow Girl and R.A.E.M.E Over the past couple of weeks/months I haven't been as focused on my stitching as normal because I've been jewellery making!  Although, Rob and I have done quite a few stitching/movie marathon afternoons which has been fun.  Anyway, I've finally got to the end of the page on Rainbow Girl and Rob has made awesome progress on his stitching! Rainbow Girl has been on the q-snap over the past couple of weeks and I'm just about at the halfway mark on this next page...  It's hard to believe I haven't worked on this one since June 2016!  It doesn't seem like that long! Queen of Spades Sends Her Regards Just a quick progress update!  I wanted to have this page completed by today's blog post, but got fed up with it and have put it aside for the moment.  The confetti is insane!  It's one of the most detailed pages I've stitched to date.  Part of the Two of Spades face is starting to show through!    Previous Progress: Current Progress: Happy stitching! xxx

Enchanted Manor                                                                           The first page of Enchanted Manor is finished! This is a crop being stitched from the regular chart. Looking at the original art, the purples at the bottom section of the rainbow are really pretty. However, with the charted version they stitch up looking more blue. I noticed this looking at a stitched version on the BB (Bulletin Board). I felt the need to change the colours in the bottom section of the rainbow to make them closer to the art! The Queen of Spades Sends Her Regards, Then What? I've been stitching away on "The Queen of Spades" and hoped to have a page finish to reveal today... There is just so much confetti it didn't happen! It's been so refreshing to switch to a different piece, after spending what must've been months on Iris! I didn't realize just how much having a rotation of different projects keeps me motivated and inspired. Switching between pieces is fun, it creates excitement and keeps things interesting... Iris Keeper of the Rainbow  My stitchy bug is still missing and I've still got severe pain in my ears.  Although, despite not feeling great, I've managed to persevere and finish the Challenge! Previous progress: More progress: The parking became a bit intense towards the bottom of the page! Page 5 completed: Overall progress to date: I obviously need to go back and finish page three...  Iris is coming off the q-snap for a bit now though!  Parking Method Evaluation Parking is not my usual stitching method.  I didn't mind it to begin with with...  However, the parked threads really started getting in the way in the more intense/detailed sections and trying to stitch around them was annoying!  I'm not sure that this method really suits me for that reason.  Although, I may still try it again at some point under different conditions, as I didn't enjoy being restricted to rows.  I did like the times where the parked threads could be wor...

Iris Keeper of the Rainbow has been pulled out for the Official HAED Facebook Challenge #2.  I chose to work on this chart because there's a ton of confetti on page four.  A detailed page like this would typically take two months to stitch using my usual cross country method.  The challenge goes for two months, so I may be pushing my luck to get it completed!  I'm intrigued to test whether this new "Challenge method" will speed things up and be a more effective way of working.  Previous Update: Progress at Start of Challenge: The Challenge involves stitching one colour at a time over the whole page before moving onto the next colour.  This is different to how I usually work, using a variety of colours in a confined space.  I started out stitching colours with the most stitches in order to get an area to anchor surrounding stitches to.  Then switched to random selection, choosing the symbols which stuck out the most! I’ve made a start on The Enchanted Manor by Josephine Wall. This one is being stitched on 14 count aida to boost the finished size of the crop.  I've never stitched on such a low count before and was curious to try it out! I’ve been working on this on and off over the past couple of months.  I'm using 4 over 1 full cross on dark colours and 3 over 1 full cross on everything else. Progress since December: I love it how Josephine painted a koala bear in the corner of this piece. The koala is native to Australia (my home country), which gives this piece a special resonance for me. Did you know that despite the fact they are often called Koala bears, Koalas aren't related to bears?! They are actually more closely related to kangaroos and wombats! They are often referred to as a koala bear because they have an obvious resemblance to a teddy bear… Currently I'm about halfway through the first page: Wishing everyone a safe and fun time over the Easter period ...
